The Ferrari 12Cilindri: The Last Symphony of Maranello's V12 Coupes

Ferrari unveiled the latest in its legendary front-engined V12 coupe series at an event in Miami today. Named the Ferrari 12Cilindri in honor of its naturally aspirated V12 engine, which produces 830 hp, the new model is offered in coupe and spider versions, both unveiled simultaneously, priced at around €400,000. With these figures, the 12Cilindri can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.9 seconds. It can also retract its rear flaps for a top speed of 340 km/h (210 mph), slicing purposefully through the air.

Enzo Ferrari once said, "Gran Turismo is for those who seek distance; for those who crave instant speed," and this 12 Cilindri appears to live up to his vision.

The engine sound is a masterpiece. Although it wasn't initially planned to be started during this first drive, a Ferrari team member, while attempting to demonstrate the hood closure on the Spider version, pressed the button harder than necessary, allowing us to hear the characteristic overwhelming roar of Ferrari V12s. However, this sound has been further refined in the 12Cilindri, with repositioned intake resonators and a meticulously crafted exhaust design to achieve a 'Ferrari symphony' in its purest form. This engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

In terms of design, the front of the Ferrari 12Cilindri takes inspiration from the iconic 365 GTB4 Daytona of the late 1960s, with a black stripe that integrates the headlights and a hood that highlights the wheel arches and features two air vents. The side design reflects the typical proportions of a front-engined V12 berlinetta, with a set-back passenger compartment and a distinctive light line that visually runs through the wheel and rear pillar, creating a striking visual effect.

Measuring 4.73 meters long, 2.17 meters wide, and 1.29 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.70 meters and a weight of 1,560 kilos, the Ferrari 12Cilindri promises to offer an exceptional driving experience, blending classic elegance with the technological innovation characteristic of the Prancing Horse brand.
